Step 1: Check if the burner control has moved to reset/shutdown — press ONCE to reset. If the burner turns on then shuts off within two minutes, call us at (978) 536-9955. Do NOT press reset again.
Step 2: Check your oil tank with the float gauge. If empty, call immediately.
Step 3: Check that your emergency switch is in the ON position. Check all fuses and circuit breakers.
Step 4: Verify your thermostat is set above the current room temperature. If digital, check or replace batteries.
Locate the top of the float to see how full your tank is. On a 275-gallon tank: ¾ full = 206 gallons, ½ full = 137 gallons, ¼ full = 70 gallons.
The reset button is on the control box on the burner, normally on the right side. It is usually red. Press it only once — pressing multiple times can flood the system with oil and cause a larger problem.
Most delivery systems incorporate an alarm system which whistles when the tank is filling up and stops when the tank is full. Our drivers are also trained to monitor the delivery gauge.
We recommend servicing your heating system annually to ensure it's running safely and efficiently. The best time is between March 1 and October 1 so your system is ready for winter.
We recommend keeping your boiler pressure at approximately 15 psi. If pressure is consistently above or below this, call us for a service check.
